Being Generic

Being just like everyone else is a problem that abounds in today’s websites…
Originality is an important part of today’s web design. You can’t find many true original designs or content.
Every day I go to the forums at Pixel2Life.com, Zymic.com, and Greycobra.com to look at the different sites being advertised for one reason or another. Yet most of the designs are very boring and generic. They have the same gradient bar background with little boxes and a banner at the top. Couple that with a relatively small font and you have yourself a recipe for a generic and boring website. It’s time to start thinking of some new ideas. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some truly unique websites out there. But a lot are just boring “gfx” websites.
Content is another thing. You might have heard the expression “content is king.” Well that is very true. Yet I see a lot of sites with the same boring articles all about “PHP Includes” and “How to slice a site.” It’s time to think of new articles! Just because it works for others doesn’t mean it’ll work again and again and again.
